Early 18th Century
Round the camp fire
The Gypsy style of wagon was certainly in vogue however, even as early as 1840 when Charles Dickens described Mrs. Jarley's van with its bed, stove, closet or larder and several chests (Old Curiosity Shop, ch. xxvii):

One half of it... was carpeted, and so partitioned off at the further end as to accommodate a sleeping-place, constructed after the fashion of a berth on board ship, which was shaded, like the windows, with fair white curtains... The other half served for a kitchen, and was fitted up with a stove whose small chimney passed through the roof. It also held a closet or larder, several chests, a great pitcher of water, and a few cooking-utensils and articles of crockery. These latter necessaries hung upon the walls, which in that portion of the establishment devoted to the lady of the caravan, were ornamented with such gayer and lighter decorations as a triangle and a couple of well-thumbed tambourines
What we have to offer
We can offer the traditional vardo which is modelled on the original Gypsy caravan which can sleep up to 2 adults and 2 children, our facilities include: inside 2 gas rings and electric light point, outside toilet tent, outside cooking and washing facilities. All the caravans are attractively furnished with pine interiors.

Our routes consist of staying at or near to Public Houses, with most of them serving traditional food for lunch or evening meals, you will also pass garages and shops for any basic needs. We suggest that you bring along some waterproof clothing (for the driver) to cover any unforetold event.

You must provide your own bedding/quilts and food, we provide everything else, if accompanied with children please bring along a small tent for sleeping arrangements. You may bring along your own horse for off road riding but it must be properly tethered overnight.

If the weather allows: one night will be spent under the stars away from all the attractions of urban life, you will be able to relax with all the sounds and the silence of the countryside.

A Horse Drawn Gypsy Caravan Holiday gives you the chance to sample something different, a unique adventure and experience, a total antidote to stress and a great family outing.
